Embracer Group: More developer studios taken over

Saber Interactive Incorporated is an American computer game designer established in 2001 with headquarters in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. The company has regional offices in Saint Petersburg, Russia (Saber Russia); Madrid, Spain (Saber Spain); Minsk, Belarus (Saber Belarus); Porto, Portugal (Saber Porto); Turin, Italy (34BigThings); Austin, Texas (Aspyr); Denver, Colorado (New Globe Interactive); Sliema, Malta (4A Gamings); Kyiv, Ukraine (4A Gamings); Sundsvall, Sweden (Saber Sweden); Sofia, Bulgaria (Picture Games); Budapest, Hungary (Zen Interactive); Buenos Aires, Argentina (Nimble Titan Amusement); Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia (Mad Head Gamings); Calgary, Canada (New World North); Montreal, Canada (New Globe East) and Aalborg, Denmark (3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks) and also employs over 1350 people. Saber was acquired by Embracer Group in February 2020, making the workshop a direct subsidiary. The firm's portfolio consists of Globe Battle Z, NBA Playgrounds, SnowRunner, Crysis Remastered as well as WWE 2K Battlegrounds among others.

The acquisitions of Demiurge Studios, Fractured Byte and Smartphone Labs were announced along with the latest financial results of the Embracer Group. All three companies were taken over by the Embracer subsidiary Saber Interactive and thus more than 200 new employees.

The cost of acquisitions were not published, but all involve an advance payment as well as additional profit sharing, which depend on the performance of the studios in the next one to six years.

Demiurge Studios

The US company Demiurge Studios is mainly known for his work in the field of Mobile, after it has previously specialized in CO development in the AAA area.

Free-to-play titles such as Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire and Marvel Puzzle Quest belong to the portfolio and it was part of the Mobile Department of Sega for five years before 2020 a management purchase took place.

The acquisition should be completed by the end of August 2021 and brings a team of 68 developers to Saber Interactive. Embracer Group expects the studio to generate a revenue of $ 15 million this year.

fractured byte

The developer and porting specialist Fractured byte from Estonia employs about 50 employees distributed at the headquarters in Tallinn and three other locations in Ukraine.

Founded in 2018, the studio has already been developing Nintendo Switch ports such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Borderlands: The Legendary Collection.

Both Fractured Byte and Demiurge Studios have previously been collaborated with the Borderlands Developer Gearbox Entertainment, which was also adopted at the beginning of the year from the Embracer Group in a Deal value of estimated 1.3 billion US dollars.

The acquisition of fractured bytes is expected to be done until the end of September 2021.

smartphone labs

Finally, the Russian software tester and game developer smartphone labs was added to the group, which gives Saber Interactive more than 100 employees.

Smartphone Labs already works together with Saber Interactive and has worked on ports such as Mudrunner for mobile devices and World was Z for Nintendo Switch.

The acquisition of the company was completed on 11 August 2021.

All three studios will keep their corporate governance as they are integrated into Saber Interactive.
