Romans: Age of Caesar is an emerging cooperative urban planning
Romans: Age of Caesar is a distinguished cooperative city play of Firefly Studios, which you may know as the people behind the Stronghold series. It is currently being tested on Alpha, but is expected to be released at some point in 2021 for iOS and Android. An open beta for the PC is expected before the end of the year.
Firefly has described Romans: Age of Caesar as a spiritual successor to the Caesar series, where some of the currently involved in this franchise work. It will use a similar art style as the games and game mechanisms that nod in this direction, for a touch of nostalgia, but it is also added a big strategy level about it.
The aim of the game is to build cities together with 15 other players, each person occupying a different district to help the place to unfold. They will share different resources, build up great structures and work together to ward off barbarian invaders.
Outside of your own district, the card will be extended even further around the world. Here you are closing together with other districts around the world and trade with you, plan road networks and work together to combat barbarians.
In addition, there will be a political level in the game that makes it possible for each player, - depending on the preference - the way to the top of the Senate to try to swap or return to make effective Caesar and the role to take over the Roman Emperor . If you win this title, of course you need to remember that there is a whole world of players who can do the same.
Decisive is that the game is cross-platform, which means that the community is not split between the different devices. This also means that you can do all daily tasks, eg. For example, the quick collecting resources on your phone while you run the more complex tasks on your PC, or vice versa if you prefer.
It is certainly an interesting idea to create an MMO with such a strong focus on co-op and to operate the whole game in such a large scale. I will definitely keep this topic in mind, and we will all bring you all up to date as soon as we experience more in the coming months.
Romans: Age of Caesar will eventually be available in the App Store and Google Play in 2021. An open beta for the PC is planned for the end of the year. It will be a free game with in-app purchases. You can also sign up on the official website to register your interest in participating in the Alpha.
