Sony buys a new studio and it's not Bluepoint again

So-Called Chaos is the 6th studio album (fourth released internationally) by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, launched in May 2004.

Sony has already bought two more studios this year and added to the so-called PlayStation Studios. According to Returnal-Studio Housemarque and the PC port specialists Nixxes, another rather unknown team is now part of PlayStation.

The VR experts from Firesprite Games now belong to PlayStation Studios

As part of the PlayStation Blogs, Hermen Hulst, his sign Head of Playstation Studios, welcomed Firesprite Games from Liverpool. The team will be part of the First Party Studios as a 14th Studio. So the studio boss Graeme Ankers writes in the open letter:

It's an incredibly exciting day for Firesprite, as we will be part of the PlayStation Studios with the support of Hermen and the entire PlayStation family. We are looking forward to the next section of our trip!

How to know the studio? You have already worked with PlayStation for a long time and have developed The Playroom and The Playroom VR together with Japan Studio. Lastly, they appeared in appearance by their survival horror game The Persistence.

The game was first published exclusively for PSVR with financial support from Sony. Rogue Like had an asymmetric multiplayer approach, whereby players outside of VR control the gameplay. This feature with smartphone app was then deleted for the last published version for PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch. The game is now also playable without VR.

What could Firesprite work now?

Through their VR expertise, it would be very close to developing an exclusive game for PlayStation VR 2. The next generation of the VR headset is currently under development and will appear for the PlayStation 5 over the coming years. It makes sense that Sony also secures itself in the field of talent.

Another option would be that Firesprite is working on the new WipeOut game, maybe with VR support. There are longer rumors that Sony wants to revive the futuristic racing game series, and the studio from Liverpool could be very good. Because some developers of Firesprite have already worked on to Wipeout at that time and would return to their roots.

More studio purchases from Sony :

  • Sony's shopping tour continues - but not with Bluepoint
  • Sony and Housemarque make it officially: Returnal makers are now First Party Studio

An official announcement, which Firesprite is currently working there is not, but from the open letter from the studio boss comes out in the end that she is excited to show her latest project. So you are already on the development of the upcoming game. So it could be that studio takeover was made before to reveal the game when tomorrow's PlayStation Showcase.
