The former headstation chief reveals the reason to leave Sony

In 2019, the main face associated with the PlayStation brand at that time was to Shawn Layden. Layden, who served as director of Worldwide Studios from 2014, succeeded Jack Tretton and helped lead the company through most of the era of PlayStation 4. However, for one reason or another, Layden announced his departure from brand in 2019 without providing much context about why he was going. Now, after almost two years of starting it, Layden has talked more about his decision to leave Sony.

In a new conversation with BloombergLayden he said that he simply felt it was a good time to hand over the reins to someone new PlayStation. It's a youth activity. I felt: this is a good time to put the finishing touches on my legacy, said the former executive. That seemed a good time to climb to the top and allow another generation take the PlayStation 5 to the marketplace.

At the time Layden left PlayStation, some speculated that he might have been advancing because of internal drama that had begun to occur. However, according to Layden, these rumors were not factual. I think I took my time when I saw better to take it. And I could not be happier, he said.

In the time since he left Sony, the successor of Layden he became the Hermen Hulst of who was formerly in charge of the team at Guerrilla Games. Over the years, Guerrilla has been best known for his work on Killzone and Horizonte zero amanecer franchises.

On the contrary, Layden has now moved elsewhere, although he still is associated with the world of video games. Layden now part of a meeting at Streamline Media, where he will help serve as a consultant to the team in everything related to video games. While it is perhaps a bit more discreet than his last concert of him, Layden seems quite satisfied with where he ended up after leaving Sony.
