The return developer housemarket was bought by Sony
The Finnish video game developer housemarket has officially joined the PlayStation Studios family, which means they were bought by Sony. It's not really a surprise, because Housemarket has been involved with Sony for some time now and has produced a number of successful titles on different generations of PlayStation consoles. While the most recent success of Housemarket is the well received Returnal AAA science fiction, its partnership with Sony started in 2007 with the development of Super Stardust HD for PS3. The history of housemarks show it like a studio with an incredible vision, so its addition to the ranks of the PlayStation studios should give a big thumb to the Creative Sony team.
Ilari Kuitinen, co-founder and Executive Director of Housemarket, said the developer is delighted to join the PlayStation Studios family and that this decision gives the studio a clear future. He said that housemarks intended to continue creating games that take a gameplay-centered approach, are experimenting with new narrative delivery methods and generally push the boundaries of video games as a form of art. As housemarks is based in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, this purchase will also contribute to extending PlayStation Studios into a local industrial pole.
Formed in 1995 by the merger of two previous developers, Bloodhouse and Terramarque, housemarket is the oldest game studio in Finland. According to Kuitinen, being bought by Sony does not change anything - in fact, it secures the inheritance of housemarks. It ensures the fans that the support of SIE means that housemarks will be able to take its true place in the industry and create limitless. In addition, he speaks enthusiastically for future exhilarating titles and opportunities to try new combinations, which could involve that housemarks already has something new waiting. We will have to wait and discover.
