14 generation Intel processors will require a new socket
The famous Moor's Law is Dead insider has published a video with a lot of details about Intel plans for the future. The most entertaining point in this leak is that Intel, according to the insider, plans to abandon the LGA1700 socket in favor of the new LGA2551. It also means that LGA1700 support will last only two generations, and Rocket Lake will be second and last for it. They will come out, by the way, already this year, and in 2023 a completely new socket will wait for us.
LGA2551 contains 50% more contacts, but at the same time only 1 mm longer and 0.5 millimeters wider than LGA1700. Mlid also shared LGA2551, which, however, was slightly modified.
The increase in the performance of the 14 generation nuclei will be higher than the growth in productivity in 13 generations relative to 12, but the insider does not have accurate data on this subject, and therefore a gap is given from 12 to 21% of the additional IPC.
